Moving to Keep the Mind Happy

They always say exercise can elevate your mood. But sometimes that is easier said than done.
If I already feel down, the last thing I want to do is get up and moving. A brain fog happens and a little voice inside says “don’t, it’s too hard, just stay wrapped in a blanket.” Finally, I’ve gotten good at ignoring that little goblin. And you know what? I always feel better after I’ve gotten in some exercise. Go and beat it, Goblin, you horrible little liar!
I am not particularly athletic, flexible or graceful. Finding a sport or exercise routine I could stick to took some time.
I love dancing. My style of choice is usually dorky, but they don’t really teach a class for that. I found Zumba, and it’s mad fun. You don’t have to do a perfect routine. The instructor doesn’t tell you what to do. They play a funky track and dance in front of you. You copy along as best you can. It is so fast, noone has any time to look at you. Everyone is too focused on their own steps.
If you want something fun to get your blood pumping for an hour, I would recommend Zumba. But if you think that sounds hellish, obviously don’t do it. You could try jogging. You can put earphones in and literally run away from the world.

Weight training could be your style. Pushing your body to the limits makes you feel like you can take on the world. Or do you want to see how stretchy you are and give Pilates a go?
What ever your preference, team sport or solo activity, do what pleases you. Sometimes leaving the house and facing the world is hard. Don’t make it harder by doing something you don’t enjoy. Find something that doesn’t feel like work. Have a little fun. You deserve it.
